Dehydration

How to Test for dehydration..

A urine test, also known as a urinalysis, is a simple, non-invasive test that examines the content of your urine. It provides insight into your general health and can help detect a variety of conditions, from infections and kidney disease to diabetes and other metabolic issues.

The test typically measures:

  1. Colour and Clarity - Can indicate dehydration or infection.

  2. Specific Gravity - Shows how concentrated the urine is, which can reveal hydration status.

  3. pH Level - Reflects acidity, potentially highlighting issues with kidney function.

  4. Proteins, Glucose, and Ketones - High levels may indicate conditions like diabetes or kidney disease.

  5. Nitrites and Leukocyte Esterase - Signs of urinary tract infection.

  6. Blood - May indicate kidney stones, infections, or other urinary tract issues.

A urine test can either be a quick dipstick test or a more detailed lab analysis. Check out the urine chart below provided by infectionpreventioncontrol.co.uk
